William Antone
Stremcha
February 1, 1921 – November 7, 2017
William A. Stremcha, 96, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Care Center on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
William was born on February 1, 1921, in Havre to Antone and Frances (Smoltz) Stremcha. He was raised in Havre, attending school there. Following his school years, William began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps camp at Neihart. He later moved on to work for the Bridge and Building division of the Great Northern Railroad. In December 1941, William married June Miller in Fort Benton in a double wedding with Lil and Tony Malsam. They were blessed with two sons, whom they adored. William worked hard, working his way into a machinist's internship with the Great Northern, which led to his final but lengthy position as a machinist for the Great Northern Railroad and then spanning the purchase by Burlington Northern, from which he retired in the early 1980s. Following his retirement, William traveled with his beloved June throughout Montana and into Arizona.
William enjoyed working on vehicles, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, the Eagles Club, the NRA, and the IAM Union.
He was preceded in death by June Stremcha, his wife of over 70 years; his son James R. Stremcha; his granddaughter Siri Stremcha; his parents Anton and Frances Stremcha; his brothers Joe and Milas Stremcha; and his sisters Frieda Marino and Libby Mayer.
William is survived by his son Alvin (Valeri) Stremcha of Havre; his daughter-in-law Dorothy Stremcha of Havre; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and his sister Margaret Robertson of Big Sandy.
