Obituary

Warren Paul Small, "Chief Center Pole" O Ki Mahw Wah Tik, 54, passed away due to natural causes at Benefis Healthcare on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.  Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Small Family Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Warren was born on July 22, 1970, in Havre to Paul "Rocky" and Anna Marie (Stone) Small, Jr.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, graduating from Rocky Boy High School in 1989.  While in high school, he ran cross-country and played basketball.  After graduation, Warren attended MSU-Bozeman, returning to Rocky Boy in 1990, where he had a long-term relationship with Althea Gopher with whom he had six children.  Over the years, he worked for the Chippewa Cree Tribe in housing as a laborer, as a security officer for the clinic and the courts, as a police officer, and as a juvenile probation officer.  Seasonally, Warren worked as a wildlands firefighter.  During the 1996-1997 academic year, he coached the girls' high school basketball team.  His health began to decline in 2016 after the death of his son.

Warren was an outgoing, outspoken man who enjoyed basketball, watching horror movies of whom he was a self-proclaimed movie critic, and listening to the 80's hair bands and Native American Church music.  He found solace in driving around in the mountains, cookouts, joking with his family.  If Warren disappeared, you could probably find him at the casino socializing.  The light of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jerico Small; grandson, Kaidynce Small; father, Paul Small, Jr.; and all of his grandparents.

Warren is survived by his children, Jordan Healy of Wisconsin, Jayde (Daniel Nault) Small of Rocky Boy, Jasmine Small of Billings, Warren Small, Jr. of Great Falls, and Cree, Ashton, and Quint Small, all of Rocky Boy; grandchildren, Anthony Small, Jaiden Nault Jaymin Small, Ezekiel Healy, Jessa Nault, Harley LaForge, and Beau Nault; mother, Anna Marie Small; brothers, Stacey and Conrad Small, both of Great Falls, and Guy (Dani Jo Sangrey) and Brendan Small, both of Box Elder; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
