Obituary

Virginia L. "Ginnie" Streeper, 93, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Care Center on Friday, February 20, 2026.  Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Megan Hoewisch officiating.  Ginnie's family has suggested memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital, Havre Art Association, or Messiah Lutheran Church.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Ginnie was born on September 23, 1932, to Clyde and Dora "Bernice" (George) Jones on her family's homestead in Beebe Montana.  She attended school in Miles City, graduating from Custer County High School in 1950, where she earned the Doubles State Championship title in tennis her senior year.  Following high school, Ginnie attended Western Montana College from which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1954.  While teaching in her first school in Roundup, she met Clarke Streeper, and the couple married in August of 1953.  They made their home in Billings, where Ginnie taught first grade and their two sons were born.  In 1960, the family relocated to Havre for Clarke's job and that is where their daughter was born.  Ginnie continued her education at Northern Montana College, where she received her bachelor's degree in early education.  She put that to use teaching kindergarten at First Lutheran Church for 11 years and then with the public school system for 5 additional years, retiring in 1983.  After retirement, she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming an artist.

Ginnie was a kind, social woman who adored children and loved to teach. She was well-known locally for her involvement in the Havre Art Association and her talent with watercolors.   She provided adult education art classes as well as private classes for children in her home.  She was a member of the Montana Watercolor Society and the local Daughters of the Nile, as well as a dedicated member of Messiah Lutheran Church.  Ginnie and Clarke loved to go dancing together, and Ginnie also loved gardening, fishing, bird-watching, and cross-country skiing.  During the winter, she took up reading.  She always had a dog or cat, whom she spoiled relentlessly.  Golfing was yet another of Ginnie's favorite pastimes.  She was a member of the Woman's Golf Association for many years.  Ginnie's true love was spending time with her family and friends with whom she loved to visit, especially vacations and special times at Swan Lake.  Each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarke Streeper; parents, Clyde and Bernice Jones; brothers, Ed, Bill, and Ray Jones; and brother-in-law, Les Streeper.

Ginnie is survived by her children, Brent Streeper of Houston, Texas, and Scott (Carla) Streeper and Kim (Gene) Kenney, all of Havre; granddaughters, Alisha (Shane) Boyce, Jamie (Marc) McBryan, Amanda (Bill) Amen, and Devon Streeper; grandsons, Sean (Megan) Peterson and Jason (Lauren) Kenney;  8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Streeper; and her beloved nieces, nephews, and many, many good friends and neighbors.
