Virginia Ann Naber, 71, a retired Hill County Clerk, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home following a courageous struggle with ALS.  Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held for close friends and family Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Pepin Park starting at 1 pm.  Memorial contributions in Virginia's honor can be made to the Virginia Naber Scholarship Fund or a memorial of one's choice.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Virginia was born December 20, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Leonard and MonaBelle (Welte) Opperud.  She was baptized April 10, 1955, at the First Presbyterian Church in Havre.  Virginia attended school in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1969.  She attended Northern Montana College where she met her husband of 51 years, Charles Duane Naber.  Virginia and Duane were married May 30, 1971, in Havre.  She graduated from Northern Montana College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1972.   That same year, they welcomed their first daughter, Lori.  Duane and Virginia would welcome two more daughters, Brenda and Karen, to complete their family.

Virginia held various positions within the Hill County Courthouse.  She worked in the Treasurer's Office from 1981-1984.  She worked for the State of Montana Driver's Examiner and the State Department of Revenue from 1988-1998.  From 1998 until her retirement in 2011, she worked at the Hill County Clerk and Recorder office.

Virginia was President of the Ft. Assiniboine Society and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was the family historian and extensively involved in genealogy.  In her free time, she enjoyed reading, baking, quilting, solving crossword puzzles, and especially travel.  Her travels included cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, trips to Europe, Mexico, and several visits to her birthplace of Hawaii.  Her greatest joy in life was watching her daughters and grandchildren compete in school sports and other activities.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and MonaBelle Welte Opperud.  Survivors include her husband, Charles Duane Naber of Havre; daughters, Lori (Paul) Degner of Chugiak, AK, Brenda (David) Olson of Bozeman, MT, and Karen (Larry) Castillo of Brighton, CO; sisters, Bonnie (DeWayne) Haas of Havre and Carol (Pat) Graham of Lakeland, FL; and 7 grandchildren, Tyler Olson, Bryce Olson, Kyle Olson, Brady Olson, Kamilah Castillo, Curtis Degner, and Cole Degner
