Virgil "Slim"
Louis Buffalo
July 9, 1975 – December 22, 2021
Virgil "Slim" Buffalo, 46, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 24, 2021, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Russell Standing Rock officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Slim was born on July 9, 1975, in Havre to Virgil and Iris (Denny) Buffalo. He was raised in Rocky Boy, graduating from Rocky Boy High School in 1993. He married Jennifer Parker, and the couple had four children and adopted one before later divorcing. After high school, Slim attended Stone Child College, graduating in 1998 with an Associate's Degree in Accounting. While attending college, he worked for the Rocky Boy Police Department. After college, Slim took a position in Denver, Colorado, as a government auditor for oil and gas leases in Rocky Boy. He moved to Pryor in 2004 when his father passed away, working as a park ranger at Plenty Coups Park. In 2014, the family returned to Rocky Boy where Slim met his significant other, and the couple relocated to Havre where they remained. In Havre, Slim worked various jobs until he took his most recent position at Eagles' Manor.
Slim was fairly quiet and reserved, however he loved to tease his close family and friends. He worked hard and was very giving, but he did prefer to stay home when he wasn't working. He enjoyed playing machines, bowling, and landscaping, and he was a member of the Native American Church and was a Sundancer for many years. His girls were his world, and he did everything for them that he could, including trying to learn to Peyote Stitch. Slim was always proud of his girls. He loved being a grandfather, but told his grandchildren to call him Uncle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil R. Buffalo; brother, Dani Buffalo; cousins, Delwayne, Angel, and Bruce "Bruman" Denny, and Cody Trottier; and aunt, Betty Jo Spotted Horse.
Slim is survived by his daughters, Brandi (Loren Standing Rock) Buffalo, Sharetha (Casey Standing Rock) Buffalo, Erin Buffalo, Laura (Moses Big Knife) Buffalo, and Samantha (Josh Nepoose) Small, all of Rocky Boy; seven grandchildren; mother, Iris Buffalo of Rocky Boy; sister, Shalome Denny of Great Falls; brother, Joseph Buffalo-Gomez of Denver, CO; significant other, Kenesia Bauer of Havre; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
