Obituary

Timothy "Tim" John Maroney, 73, died Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Great Falls Clinic Hospital. His prayer vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, with his funeral mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, all at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre, Montana.

Tim was born September 30,1951, in Granite Falls, Minnesota to John and Susan (Balk) Maroney. He was raised and educated in Maynard, Minnesota.

He received his associates degree in Forestry and Conservation in Crookston, Minnesota where he met the love of his life, Jan Jevning. They married in June 1972 and lived in New Hope Minnesota until they moved to Montana in 1973.

Tim worked to support his family for several years as a rancher, construction worker, and a Meadow Gold dairy truck driver. In 1988, he began working at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, where he found his true calling. He was active in youth and adult faith formation, baptismal and marriage preparation, and countless other roles. As he grew in his faith, he was certified in Pastoral Ministries from St.Mary's in Winona Minnesota. In 2014, after several years of studies, he was ordained a Deacon of the Catholic Church. Tim was passionate in his faith and participated in the formation of other deacons. He was proud to be a part of the Havre Ministerial Association and the fellowship and unity they shared.

Tim was never one to stay idle for long.  He enjoyed having a project, including building his dream home with help from family and friends. He liked sports, especially softball and golf, and looked forward to his weekly morning men's group. He loved spending time with family, passing on to his children and grandchildren his faith, values, and work ethic.

Words cannot describe how much Tim meant to the community, the parish, and his family.  His presence at Mass will be greatly missed, while his absence from the community will be felt by many.  Though he is gone, his joyful spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who love and miss him dearly.

Those who knew him well, knew how deeply he loved his wife Jan. He attributed his strong faith to her and how she helped him recognize the unconditional love of God. He was often caught staring at her and reminding her how beautiful she was to him, and how much he loved her.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sue Maroney, brother Tom Maroney, grandson Patrick Maroney, and granddaughter, Gethsemane Maroney.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife, Jan; children, Ryan Maroney, Megan Maroney, Katie (Paul) Jones and Faith (Stephen) Real; grandchildren, Achilles Maroney, Grady, Lily, Lochlan & Finnegan Jones, and Cormac Maroney; and great-grandchildren, Lennon, Luca, and Eliza Real. He is also survived by his sister Dianne Westendorp as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Tim's honor may be made to St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church or the Havre Ministerial Association.

For those attending the services, once the sanctuary is full, St. Jude has opened their gymnasium for overflow seating.  First Lutheran Church has graciously offered their parking area to attendees of Tim's services.
