Thomas Howard
Stevens
January 4, 1948 – June 1, 2019
Thomas "Tom" Howard Stevens, age 71, of Havre, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Chapel at Northern Montana Care Center. Memorials in Tom's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. Please visit Tom's online memorial page and leave a message of condolence for his family at www.hollandbonine.com .
Tom was born on January 4, 1948 to Howard "Jake" and Dorelda (Nelson) Stevens in Havre, MT. He was raised and attended school in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1967. After graduation he attended Northern Montana College. A few credits short of finishing his degree, Tom was offered an apprenticeship with the Great Northern Railroad and so began his nearly 40-year career with the railroad in Havre.
Tom worked as a machinist and was an expert in maintaining the diesel engines. He was known amongst his fellow railroaders as "Beep Beep" (because he was always moving like the Roadrunner) and "Beaker". Tom was also heavily involved in the Railroad Union and worked hard at his job. Even after Tom had to go on dialysis 3 days a week due to a hereditary kidney condition, he continued to work the other 4. In 1994 he received a kidney transplant to remedy his illness and was diligent in taking care of himself and his health. Partially because of his diligence, the transplanted kidney continued to function well through the end of his life.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved playing with his nieces and nephews when they were infants and spent countless hours visiting his mother. When Dorelda moved to the Care Center his dedication did not wane and he continued to visit her every day. Tom was not one for words but was always there for you in your time of need. He enjoyed tending to his yard and home and watching old TV westerns; his favorite was Bonanza.
He is preceded in death by his father, Howard "Jake" Stevens.
Tom is survived by his mother, Dorelda Stevens of Havre; siblings, Harold Stevens of Havre, Margaret (Don) Holden of Billings, Rick (Mary) Stevens of Havre and Ruth Goss of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
