Theodore
Soper
January 14, 1950 – May 2, 2025
Theodore "Ted" Soper, 75, of Havre, Montana, passed away peacefully on May 2nd.
Please visit Theodore's online memorial at www.hollandbonine.com to send a card or leave a message of condolence for his family.
Born on January 14, 1950, in Glasgow, Montana to John Westley and Margaret Elaine (Frisch) Soper. Ted was raised on a farm near Opheim. As a young man, he was active in the Boy Scouts and FFA before pursuing an education at the Billings Automotive Trade Center. He went on to become a skilled mechanic, working at Valley Motors and later dedicating 28 years to Northwestern Energy (formerly Montana Power Company) before retiring in 2013.
Ted moved to Havre in 1970, and on May 24, 1975, he married Linda Johnson in Great Falls. Though they later divorced in 1985, Ted remained a devoted father and a constant presence in the lives of his son and daughter.
Throughout his life, Ted embraced a variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed bowling, boating, water skiing, and dancing. He also had a green thumb and was particularly proud of his lawn and home garden, where he grew strawberries, raspberries, and purple potatoes. Above all, he loved wrenching on motors—from heavy-duty line trucks during his career to lawn equipment in retirement. His favorite spot to relax was The Boxcars, where he could often be found sharing beers, stories, and laughs with his buddies.
Ted is survived by his son, Tony Soper (April); grandson, Bryson Daggett (Annie); and three great-grandchildren: Finley, Blake, and Maverick. He is also survived by his big brothers Bob, John, Bill (Susie), and Jim (Gail) Soper.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Soper; his parents, John Westley and Margaret Elaine (Frisch) Soper; his brother, Stan Soper; sister-in-law Helen Soper, and his nephew, Randy Soper.
A celebration of Ted's life will be held at the Boxcars Restaurant and Bar on Saturday, May 17th at 1:00. In keeping with his laid-back nature, no formal services are planned.
Ted will be remembered for his mechanical know-how, hard work, and his willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
