Theodore Lamere,
Jr.
November 16, 1949 – October 20, 2024
Theodore LaMere, Jr., 74, passed away due to natural causes at his residence on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Wake services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the LaMere Family Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Theodore was born on November 16, 1949, in Fort Belknap to Theodore and Mary Jane (St. Marks) LaMere, Sr. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school in Box Elder. After graduation, he attended Haskell Indian School, after which he returned to Rocky Boy. There, he worked with his brother at the LaMere Station in Rocky Boy for several years. Theodore began a relationship with Carol Oats in the early 80s, raising her son and later her grandson as his own. He attended Stone Child College, majoring in construction trades and graduating in the late 1980s. Following his graduation, Theodore worked for Chippewa Cree Housing as a carpenter, for the Chippewa Cree Road Department as a heavy equipment operator, and for the Northern Winz Casino repairing their machines. He retired in 2015 due to his health.
Theodore was a hard-working man who enjoyed playing horseshoes, the machines, cards, basketball, and pool. He was very social and loved to tease, and also loved to fish. Thedore was the best dry meat maker on the reservation, having learned from his aunties, Esther Turner and Elizabeth Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary LaMere, Sr., and his brother, Richard LaMere.
Theodore is survived by his adopted son, Robert Oats, of Rocky Boy; grandchildren, Jaymin (Ruth Medicine Crow) Oats, Kaylynn Oats, and Jazmin Starr Longfox, all of Rocky Boy, Destiny Bauer and John Oats of Havre, and Alicia Oats of Rocky Boy; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Pete (Leah) LaMere, Theda (Rick) Morsette, and Joey LaMere, all of Rocky Boy, Sigmund Sutherland of Albequerque, New Mexico, Susie LaMere of Rocky Boy, Gabe (Patrick) LaMere of Seattle, and Winona and Chris LaMere, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
