Steven Leo
Northwind
April 18, 1951 – March 23, 2024
In the early morning on Saturday, March 23, 2024, our beloved brother/ uncle/ grampa/ friend, Steven Leo Northwind, 72, crossed over to the spirit world due to natural causes at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle, WA. Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Steve will be laid to rest at home in Rocky Boy at the Denny Grave Site. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Steven was born on April 18, 1951, to Minnie Fine Bow and Pete Northwind at the Fort Belknap Indian Health Service Hospital.
Steve spent time in Havre with his mom and Christine as well as Juanita and her husband. They later moved to Great Falls, where he continued to enjoy time with his mom, siblings, and many other relatives. He liked to bead in his spare time, and he enjoyed playing at the Casinos when he was feeling lucky. He also enjoyed going to bingo with family members.
Steve had health issues most of his life, starting with polio at a very young age and a disability which affected his health and his ability to obtain education and academics. But his disability didn't keep him from maintaining a positive outlook on life, he was always laughing and teasing.
After his mom, sisters, Christine, and Juanita passed on, Steve found himself back in Seattle, but he wanted to go home. Steve loved all his nieces and nephews, and spent quite a bit of time staying with his niece India Furman, his grandson Artie Hoops, and nephew Montayo Northwind, who all shared a special bond with him.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Fine bow; his father, Pete Northwind; Grandfather Fine Bow; sisters, Linda Northwind, Cheri Northwind, Juanita Vavages Mils, Christine Northwind; brothers, Henry Northwind, John Northwind; and special niece, India Furman.
He is survived by brothers, Lawrence (Donna) Northwind, Sr. of Wenatchee, WA, and Victor Campos of Great Falls, MT; sisters, Geraldine (Melvin) Rutherford, of Fort Belknap, MT, Darcia Northwind of Roberts, MT; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
