Serena M. LaRoque, Umba Was'te, 92, passed away on December 19, 2013 at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre. Wake service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the St. Paul Mission Rec Center in Hays, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the St. Paul Mission Rec Center. Serena was born on May 15, 1921 to Richard and Belle (Windchief) King in Dogtown, MT. She was raised there and graduated from the 8th grade in Dogtown in 1934. The family moved to Hays when Serena was 16. She married Moses Stiffarm, Sr. in the early 1940's, and their union was blessed with three children. They later divorced. Serena married Max White, Sr. in the mid-1940's, and they were blessed with seven children. The couple later divorced. Serena married George LaRoque in 1957, and this union was blessed with two children. George passed away in 2000. Serena cooked and was a housekeeper for IHS for many years. She also worked in registration at the Hays clinic. She loved to play Bingo and work puzzles. She enjoyed gardening, canning and berry picking. She was a patient but strong-minded woman who had a great sense of humor, and loved to tease those she loved. Serena was preceded in death by husbands Moses Stiffarm, Sr., Max White, Sr., and George LaRoque; her sons, Gerald "Jeb" Stiffarm and Ronald and Donald White; her daughters Lois and Rosalie White, Loretta Stiffarm, and Arlene Mount; her granddaughter Mary Hawley; her grandson Alwayne "AJ" LaRoque, Jr.; her brothers Richard King, Jr, Thomas King, and John Ironmaker; her sisters Alice King-Fleury, Olive King, Cecelia King, Esther King, and Martha King; and her parents, Richard and Belle King. She is survived by her sons, Max (Shirley) White, Jr., William "Billy" White, Alwayne LaRoque, and Chris Bennett (D'Lynn) LaRoque, all of Hays, James Fleury of Fort Belknap, and Gerald "Jeb" Stiffarm Jr. of Billings; daughters, Alyce Marie Hockhalter of Fort Belknap, Lorene (Ralph) Doney and Georgiann (Curtis) LaRoque - Doney, all of Hays, and Wendy (Reno) Stiffarm of Elko, NV; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; her brothers Robert "Bobby" King, Sr., of Fort Belknap, Leon "Duke" (Norma Jean) King, of Hays, Robert "Bobby James" (Loretta) Ironmaker of Fort Belknap, James Ironmaker of Elmo, and Lee and David Ironmaker, both of Great Falls; sisters Kay and Jackie Ironmaker of Havre, and Cathy Fleury of Polson; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
