Russell J. Mitchell, 73, passed away due to natural causes at the Northern Montana Care Center on Sunday, October 18, 2020. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Tuesay, October 20, 2020 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Warrior's Burial Grounds Cemetery.

Rusty was born on July 12, 1947, in Fort Belknap to Paul and Leona (Nomee) Mitchell.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending elementary school there and then going on to high school at Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota.  After he graduated from high school, Rusty entered the US Army and served in Vietnam, where he sustained an injury that left him disabled.  He was honorably discharged, and returned home to his family and friends.

Rusty enjoyed playing cards and Bingo and watching game shows on television.  He was a member of the Rocky Boy Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Leona Mitchell; brothers, John Lorin Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, and Wallace Mitchell; and sisters, Alice Conklin and Mary Margaret Johnson.

Rusty is survived by his sister Elsie Mitchell of Rocky Boy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
