Roy "Jiggs" Sun Child "He walks on Sweat Rocks" and "Eagle Who Comes Singing" passed away due to natural causes at the Northern Montana Care Center on July 24, 2022. Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Earl "Archie" Arkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Warriors Burial Grounds Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
He was born in Havre, Montana on July 18, 1947, to Ned Sun Child and Theresa Houle. Jiggs graduated from Box Elder High School in 1967, and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. After completing his service, Jiggs returned to Rocky Boy where he met Cecelia "Upsop" Gardipee. Together, they raised her daughters Rochell and Jenny. It was around this time that he started working with his dad as a cement finisher. This work led him around the state of Montana and created a lasting legacy in regard to Sun Child Concrete. Later in life, Jiggs met Barbara Larsen and together they had five children. After the dissolution of their relationship, Jiggs met Vonnie Ford and they spent a few years together. Jiggs spent his last years with Leita Sutherland.
Jiggs enjoyed gambling, visiting family and friends, telling stories, and going for drives around Rocky Boy. He will be remembered for his easy-going personality.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ned Sun Child and Theresa Houle, brother Clyde Sun Child and sister Arlene Bodine.
Jiggs is survived by his sons, Jeremy Larson, Robert (Memory) Sun Child, and Joey (Shannon) Larsen; his daughters, Jenny Marrow, Shannon (Claude) LaMere, LaRae Sun Child, Jerilyn (Justin) Johnson, and Dorinda Sun Child; brothers, Lloyd (Gaye) Sun Child, Darrell (Carita) Sun Child, Dallas (Pam) Sun Child, and Darin (Marva) Sun Child; sisters, Cindy Sun Child, Doreen Sun Child, Kimberly (Vic) Patacsil, and Violet Sun Child. Jiggs is also survived by 14 grandchildren.
