Obituary

Rose Lynn Saddler, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Peace Hospice in Great Falls on Thursday, March 14, 2024.  Wake services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, and will continue until her funeral service, which will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Catholic Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Rose was born on March 27, 1961, in Fort Belknap to Emma Saddler.  She strongly supported the pursuit of education.   Rose attended numerous schools during her life, including Intermountain Boarding School in Utah, Chemawa Indian Boarding School in Oregon, and Box Elder schools.  At Chemawa, Rose's home economic teacher submitted her sewing for a competition, where she received a scholarship to further her education in Fashion and design at an institute in Texas.  Rose obtained her GED from MSU – Northern.

Throughout her early twenties, she worked at Rocky Boy Public Schools as a special education paraprofessional.  While serving in this role, she also attended classes at Stone Child College.  Eventually, Rose transitioned to entrepreneurship.  She was a successful businesswoman, who co-owned and co-operated the Pastime Convenience Store for over 15 years, while creating her art.  In the 90s, she won the CMR Indian Art Show for her remarkable beadwork.  During these years, she also served on the board for the Boys and Girls Club of the Bear Paws and helped organize the Pastime Boxing Club that trained 27 young men in the art of boxing.

In the early 2000s, Rose taught as a class 7 Cree Language and Cultural Instructor at Box Elder public schools.  In this role, she chaperoned a group of students to the NIEA conference in North Carolina.

In 2008, Rose graduated from United Tribes Technical College with an associate's degree in early childhood education.  After obtaining her associate's degree, she returned home to Rocky Boy, where she served the Tribe in several capacities, including as a domestic violence advocate, pregnant and teen coordinator, and as the interim director of the Family Resource Center.  Rose also served on the Montana Native Women Wellness Coalition.

Rose enjoyed and was well-known for mentoring young people by teaching them how to sew, especially their dancing outfits, bead, cook traditional foods, and make bannock and fry bread.  She was one of the last ladies in Rock Boy who knew how to cook all of the traditional foods.  She loved the Rolling Stones & Dwight Yoakum, making new friends, and spending time with all of her friends and family, laughing and joking, and Rose really enjoyed gambling.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma (Robert Mitchell) Saddler; grandparents, Bill and Rose Ann (Briere) Saddler; her sister, Josette Mitchell; and longtime friends, Ann Denny and Tammy Corcoran.

Rose is survived by her partner, Mark Jarvey, Sr.; children, Rebekah and Mark Jarvey, Jr., and ShoShana (Deb) and Tyrone Saddler; grandsons, Royce Raining Bird-Jarvey and Maximus Saddler; sisters, Candice (Curt) Carter and Josie Mitchell; brothers, Grant Saddler, James Dean (Martha) Mitchell, and Barney (Elsie) Molina; adopted children, Uli Fox, Charlie Parker, Jonas Rickett, Vincent Denny, Caid Gamble, Shirley Thunder, and Shania Morin; adopted grandchild, Wambidi Yellow Hammer-Hall; longtime friends, Rosella Wilson, Roxanne Denny, Ursula Rides Horse, Selina Johnson, Martina Heavy Runner, and Margaret Bernard; her Sundance and ceremony family; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
