Robert was born on January 29, 1947 to Edward and Bertha (Fisher) Gomke in Havre, MT. He was raised and attended school through the 8 th grade in Kremlin. Robert worked several jobs before hiring on with the railroad on March 12, 1970. He worked in Maintenance Of Way and held several positions there over the years, finishing his career as a track inspector. In 1975 he was in a terrible work accident that should have left him dead, however, he made a full recovery and returned to work putting in another 25 years with the BNSF. This electrical accident gave Robert a new lease on life, and he lived every day to the fullest afterwards.
On June 18, 1983 Robert married Sharon Groseclose in Havre Montana. Although it did not appear that children were in the cards for Robert, against the odds he and Sharon welcomed two boys; Robbie on February 2, 1984 and Jerrad on November 21, 1985. Robert would often say that those two were his proudest achievement. When the boys bought the golf course in 2014, he could be found out on the course tending to the greens and visiting with the golfers. He loved helping the boys with farm work as well, especially if it included bottle feeding calves.
Robert was proud of his yard and garden. He painted landscapes in the style of Bob Ross and rarely missed an episode of his show. Robert enjoyed visiting with his old work buddies and would often catch up with them at "the office" aka the Tip It. Solitaire was a favorite card game of his and he would play for hours on end. He also enjoyed watching old movies and westerns and listening to oldies music by Fats Domino, Elvis and The Statler Brothers, to name a few.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Norman, Stan, Agnes, Lorraine, James, Fritz and Reuben; mother and father-in-law Gerry and Delmar Wolfe; and nephews, Jason Groseclose, Wayne Gomke, Jamie Thole and Ricky Knudson.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sharon of Kremlin; sons, Robbie and Jerrad of Havre; siblings, Mike (Linda), Shirley (Daryll) Hensley, Patsy (Jerry) Marleau and Clarence "Blackie" (Anna Mae); brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron (Bev) Groseclose and Linda (Don) Dill; and many special nieces and nephews.
