Richard Lee Sutherland, 38, passed away at his residence on Monday, November 28, 2022.  Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Richie was born on July 24, 1984, in Havre to Dean Sutherland and Crissa Oliva.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school at Rocky Boy and Box Elder.  Richie attended the Montana Youth Challenge Program, where he received his GED in 2002.  He then attended the Kicking Horse Job Corps, where he received his certifications in diesel technology and culinary arts.  Richie returned to Rocky Boy, where he met Tara Werk in 2009, and the couple married in 2017.  The couple made their home in Rocky Boy and in Hays.  He welcomed his son Marcus in 2010.  Richie attended Aaniiih Nakoda College, where he majored in information technology.

Richie enjoyed tinkering with both cars and broken cell phones.  He loved his son, and spent a lot of time swimming with him.  He loved to tease and joke with his family and those close to him, and traveling with his little family was a favorite pastime.  Richie was a happy, introverted man who enjoyed spending time with his close friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fidel and Alberta Oliva, Richard Sutherland, and Louise Ell; and his infant brother Zachery Sutherland.

Richie is survived by his wife, Tara (Werk) Sutherland of Hays; children, Marcus Gone-Sutherland and Aeliana Doney, both of Hays; parents, Crissa Oliva and Dean Sutherland, both of Rocky Boy; siblings, Nathan Oliva, Desireé Sutherland, Noah Sutherland, and Rylee Sutherland, all of Rocky Boy; adopted brothers, Darwin Demontiney and Nathaniel Windy Boy, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
