Retha Mae Chandler, 82, passed away due to natural causes at her residence on Friday, June 17, 2022. Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2022. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2022, and her funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022. All services will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rocky Boy. Burial will follow her funeral service in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Retha was born on May 14, 1940, in Fort Belknap to William and Josephine "Babe" (Gladue) Morsette, Sr. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending Sangrey School through the 8 th grade, and Flandreau High School. Following her school years, Retha married Floyd Hopkins, and the couple had three children. For several years, they made their home in Valley, Blaine, and Hill counties, and divorced in the mid-60s. Retha later married Alfred Chandler, and the couple had four children. They made their home in Malta until 1999, when they returned to Rocky Boy. Retha attended nursing school, and in Malta, Retha worked as a CNA for many years.
Retha enjoyed reading, especially magazines, shopping, going for drives, beading, sewing, and gardening. For many years, she was a babysitter for friends, caring for their children as though they were her own.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Chandler, Sr.; her former husband, Floyd Hopkins, Sr.; parents, William and Babe Morsette, Sr.; sons, Floyd Hopkins, Jr. and Randy Chandler, Sr.; grandson, Gabriel W. Brown; sisters, Josephine St. Marks, Geneva Houle, Alice Gardipee, Rose Bernard, and Linda Morsette; and brothers, John "Sonny" Morsette, William Morsette, Jr., and Richard Morsette.
Retha is survived by her daughters, Tina Small and Portland "Kitty" St. Pierre, both of Rocky Boy, Alretha "Ann" Chandler of Havre, and Nikita Denny of Box Elder; sons, Corey Chandler of Box Elder, Phillip (Nicole) Chandler of Shelly, ID, Ron (Crystal) Chandler of Box Elder, Taylor (Jessica) Small of Havre, and Alfred Chandler, Jr. of Havre; adopted son, Tim Koop of Box Elder; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Violet Oats, Vivian (Jack) Striker, Hannah Morsette, and Marla Boe, all of Rocky Boy; brothers, Larry (Karen) Morsette, Sr., Melvin (Sheila) Morsette, Sr., Kermit (Wilma) Morsette, and Harvey "Joeboy" (Debbie) Morsette, all of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
