Rachel Hofer, 96, passed away due to natural causes at her home with her loved ones by her side. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in the Hidden Valley Colony Church. Burial will follow in the Hidden Valley Colony Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Rachel was born in Miltown, SD to John and Rachel Wurtz on March 8, 1925. When Rachel was 8 years old, she moved to Warner Alta with her family, where she got her formal education. In 1947, she married Andrew Hofer and moved to Raymond Alta. In 1949, they moved to Miller Colony in Chouteau, MT. In 1961, the family moved to Sage Creek in Chester, and they lived there until 2018 when she relocated once again to Hidden Valley Colony south of Gildford.
Rachel loved working with children, serving the colony as a kindergarten teacher for 14 years. She was also a midwife, working with Dr. Buker and Dr. Earl delivering many babies, which she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew; an infant daughter, Anna; son-in-law, Jacob "Clyde" Kleinsasser; brothers, John, Andrew, and Micheal Wurtz of Sweet Grass, and Jacob Wurtz of Galata; and sisters, Katie Hofer of Shelby and Elizabeth Mendel of Vulcan Alta.
Rachel is survived by her children, Andy (Elizebeth) Hofer, Peter (Lydia) Hofer, and Susie (Jacob) Kleinsasser, all of Riverview Colony, John (Sarah) Hofer, and Dave (Esther) Hofer, all of Sage Creek Colony, Christina Hofer, Rachel (Jacob) Waldner, Jacob (Tabitha) Hofer, Reverend Sam (Emma) Hofer, Mike (Lydia) Hofer, and Phillip (Elizebeth) Hofer, all of Hidden Valley Colony, Anna (Paul) Entz of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Elizebeth (John) Wipf of Harlowtown, and Mary (Peter) Entz of Formost Alberta; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Rebecca (Jacob) Kleinsasser; and many cousins and friends.
Rachel's family would like to thank Dr. Blair and Dr. Armstrong of Liberty Medical Center for taking the time to come visit her when it was needed.
