Peter Randall
Sunchild
September 2, 1961 – July 14, 2024
Peter Randall "Pete" Sunchild, Wi-kahs-Kwi-no (Sweetgrass Man) passed away at Benefis Hospital due to natural causes on July 14, 2025. Wake services will begin at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 and will continue until funeral services on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. All services will be at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church in Rocky Boy Montana. Holland & Bonine Funeral home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Pete was born on September 2, 1961, to John Roddy Sunchild, Sr & Florence Stump Sunchild. He left this earthly world … calm and peaceful and for that, we are grateful. Pete was born and raised in a very traditional family and carried this Way of Life with him, always. Pete had a sense of humor that was witty and at times, seemed like he was being sarcastic … it was just Pete being Pete.
Pete attended Box Elder High School, excelling in football, basketball, and track with honors in each sport. He was a part of the Box Elder Bears who were State bound in basketball in all the seasons he played. He was a part of the original Rocky Boy Softball team, playing for years and years with the same set of players, enjoying local, state, and 3-2 tournaments. This same set of players became 'family' to him and the comradery which was a part of the game had the team doing cookouts, camp outs, other activities … all brought much teasing, joking, and laughter to everyone. His love of sports, most especially basketball, led him to Haskell Indian College to play the sport after high school graduation. His biggest and favorite pastime was watching and supporting his grandchildren in whatever event or activity they were involved; he was always their biggest supporter. His greatest joy was making sure that his children and grandchildren knew that he will always be their #1 fan! He also had a love for the casino, he spent many nights there with his daughters and oldest granddaughter. Later on in life he had a passion for creating Native American art, including beaded necklaces, canvas Tipis and homemade picture frames.
Pete was preceded in death by his Sons, Nathan and Joseph Sunchild; his father and mother, John 'Roddy' & Florence Stump Sunchild; Brother John 'Rick' Sunchild; Uncles Rocky, John, Clifford, Pete, Donald, Jim, Fred, Douglas and Pat Stump and Ned & Bruce Sunchild; Aunts Flora Stump Big Knife, Dorothy Small, Zellah Nault, Patsy Stump Gopher, and his best friend, Shawn Parker.
He is survived by daughters Deidra and Deena Sunchild, Loves of his Life, grandchildren Tayleigh, Tatum, Layden, and Leilynn; Sister's Laurie & Lisa Sunchild; Aunts Helen Parker and Irene Mitchell; Nephews John Sunchild III (Shauntae), Cruz Singer; Nieces Serene (Tommy), Allie (Cody), Anjel, Tennae (Steven) and Rainey (Bradley) whom he loved to call Rainmutt; all his other grandchildren Alyx, Khenadie, Calen, Caleb, Ah'varie, Braxton, Camm, Dave, Amiyah, Ariya, Ayvien, Rickson, and Bear.
