Peter D. "Tuffer" Mitchell, 61, passed away due to natural causes at The Ivy in Great Falls on Friday, June 18, 2021.  Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2021, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, June 21, 2021, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the Warrior's Burial Grounds Cemetery.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Tuffer was born on July 24, 1959, in Fort Belknap to David and Myrna (Gray) Mitchell.  He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending Box Elder schools.  In January of 1978, Tuffer enlisted in the US Army.  While serving in the military, he earned his GED and worked as a mechanic and sheet metalist on the choppers.  His honorable discharge was granted in 1981, and he returned home to work in construction, beginning as a laborer and working his way into concrete.  He adopted Gregory "Moose" Raining Bird and Dava Mitchell, and helped raise them.

Tuffer was a friendly, out-going man who enjoyed card games, socializing at the casinos, and mechanic work.  He had a great sense of humor, and was very generous.  Most of all, he adored his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Alexander, Jr.; parents, David and Myna Mitchell; brothers, David Mitchell, Jr., and Vernon Mitchell; sisters, Rhonda Mitchell and Vivian Romero; and nephew Benicio Mondragon.

Tuffer is survived by his children, Greg "Moose" (Trey Nault) Raining Bird of Rocky Boy and Dava Mitchell of Great Falls; grandchildren, Loren, Benicio, Trinity, and Isaiah Alexander, and LaeLah Raining Bird; brothers, Wilson (Mildred Lamere) Mitchell of Rocky Boy and Gordon (Julie) Mitchell of Great Falls; sisters, Cheryl (Wallace) Graham of Littlefield, AZ, and Donna Raining Bird of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family, and many, many friends.
