Obituary

Peggy J. Malone, 87, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital on Friday, May 3, 2024.  Cremation has taken place, and private services will be held at a later date.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Peggy was born on June 20, 1936, in Wadena, MN, to Raymond and Laura (Fischer) Conn, the 9th of 12 children. She was raised on the family farm outside Wadena, graduating from Wadena High School in 1954. After high school she worked for the local Ford dealership as a bookkeeper and soon began dating Jim Malone. The couple married in 1959. They relocated to Havre, MT in 1961 where they owned and operated Fleet Supply. Peggy primarily worked as the bookkeeper for the store and was a full-time mother. The couple had 3 children who grew up in Havre. Peggy retired in 2011.

Peggy was a kind, loving woman with an impish sense of humor who enjoyed reading, playing cards, and square dancing. Peggy was an immaculate housekeeper who adored her family, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking big family dinners and having a full house. She was very supportive of her children and grandchildren in all of their extracurricular activities. Her great-grandchildren were a constant source of joy to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jim Malone; her parents, Raymond and Laura Conn; brothers, Bently and Charles; sisters, Martha, Florence, Goldie, Dot and Betty; and son-in-Law, William "Butch" Welter.

Peggy is survived by her children, Lori Welter of Great Falls, Ron (Kara) Malone of Havre, and Mark (Natalie) Malone of Lewistown; grandchildren, Kristi (Jeromy) Riggin, Shaundel (Matt Cullen) Boyce, Caitlin (Zack) Zieske, Connor (Ana) Malone, Jim Malone, Megan (Jay) Darrah, and Sarah (Jake Ernst) Malone; six great-grandchildren, Jayce Riggin, Grace Riggin, Jameson Cullen, Brinn Cullen, Joanna Darrah, and Fletcher Darrah, with one on the way in October; siblings, Annabelle Olson of Wadena, MN, Lola Rentz of Sebeka, MN, Donald Conn of New Prague, MN, and Nancy Winkels of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
