Marie was born on December 16, 1931, in Lodge Pole, to Parker and Isabel (One Man) Gives the Blanket. She was raised in Lodge Pole, attending school there.  After her school years Marie met James Birdtail, Jr. and the couple married in 1956, in Butte, where James worked. They had eight children and an adopted son, James and Marie lived in Butte, Glasgow, Washington, and returned to Fort Belknap in 1970, where they remained. Marie cared for her husband and family and raised her beloved children. Marie also opened her home to and took care of numerous nieces and nephew and grandchildren.  Marie was one of 12 descendants of the One Man sisters (Rose, Isabel and Mayme) and was the last surviving descendent of the One Man Off-spring.

Marie was the absolute closest thing to sainthood and lived her life purely and selflessly and devoted her time to her family and she will live on and be carried in the hearts of her family forever. She was a kind, loving lady who enjoyed sewing, collecting various things, and watching westerns on television. Marie adored her children and grandchildren, and spent all the time she could with them. She always talked of her love of riding horses and running. She had a special project (20 years) she was working on (a Jean Patch Quilt) which she requested Jermayne Birdtail (her grandson) finish for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Birdtail, Jr.; son, Floyd Birdtail; daughters, Suzette Campbell and infant daughter Sandra Lee Birdtail; grandchildren, Darnell Fox, Parker Garmann, Patricia Garmann; infant great-grandchildren, Olivia Bear and Blaine Patrick; brothers, Clarence Gives, Leslie Gives, Leroy Longknife, Wilbur Longknife; sisters, Agnes Long Fox, Almeda Gives, Janice Street, Katherine Ereaux, Lena Longknife, Neoma Abbott, Eunice Augustine, Ella Mae Moore; and niece, Dianna Longknife-Main.

Pearl is survived by her children, Tina Warbonnet, Blossom (Willy) Quisno, Verna (George Stump) Birdtail, Wanda (Bo Wing) Birdtail, and Michael Cox, all of Fort Belknap, and James Birdtail III of Lodge Pole; 16 grandchildren, Monte, Ashley, Oscar, Donald,  Sheryl, Mackenzie, Michael, Dawn, Elizabeth, Patricia, Ted, Justin, Randall, and Brittany, and special grandchildren Jermayne and Crystal; 38 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; special niece and nephews, Lyle (Marty) Cochran, Rosie (Jiggs) Longknife-Main, and Shane Abbott; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
