Nathan Richard
Schafer
July 11, 1976 – November 29, 2025
Nathan "Nate" R. Schafer, 49, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Nate's life will be scheduled for nicer weather in 2026. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Nate was born on July 11, 1976, in Havre to Kelly R. and Paula (Wieweck) Schafer. He was raised primarily in Havre, which is where he attended school. At the age of six, Nate was diagnosed with a brain tumor that seriously affected his life. Following his high school years, he worked mainly at Schafer Insurance, where he was an administrative assistant and also a licensed insurance agent for a time. In 1996, Nate married Krissy Boyum, and the couple had three children before divorcing in 2002. Eventually, his brain tumor led to him becoming disabled, but he kept a positive attitude through it all.
Nate enjoyed collecting sports cards, stamps, and signed baseballs. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and he also had a very close bond with his grandfather, Richard Schafer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Paula Schafer; grandparents, Richard and Gavis Schafer, Dick Wiewick, and Virginia Trotchie.
Nate is survived by his children, Troy (Savannah) Schafer, Cheyenne Schafer, and Kaleb (Meagan) Schafer, all of Havre; grandchildren, Stella, Carson, and Parker Schafer, Bryce Schafer, Layton and Isiah Loftus, and Logan and Levi Schafer; father, Kelly R. (Carmen) Schafer of Havre; brother, Ryan Schafer of Havre; nephews, Kelly G. (Lily) and Kasey Schafer, all of Havre; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
