Myrtle was born on April 4, 1950, at home in Rocky Boy to Arthur and Mabel (Ochino) Raining Bird.  She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending elementary school there.  The family moved to Great Falls, and Myrtle attended CMR High School, transferring to Flandreau toward the end and graduating there.  She married John Phillip Albert, III, with whom she had two children before divorcing.  She later married Vernon L. Mitchell with whom she had a daughter.  She also later adopted a son.  Myrtle attended Montana State University in Missoula, and there she graduated with a bachelor's degree in education.  She moved to Billings, and there she worked for St. Vincent Healthcare as a CNA.  Upon her return to Rocky Boy, she worked as a teacher first at Headstart, then at Rocky Boy High School in the bilingual program, and at Stone Child in traditional studies.

Myrtle enjoyed sewing, making Bannock, working crosswords, reading, watching Yellowstone and Longmire, playing Keno, and she loved to just go on walks outside.  Myrtle adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Mabel Raining Bird; sister, Barbara FourStar; brothers, Ivan, Joe, and Louis Raining Bird; and husband, Vernon Mitchell.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Theron (Ona Gopher) Raining Bird, Cheryl Albert, Tamura Michell, and Upton (Kelsey) Whitford, all of Rocky Boy; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Whitford and Janice (Lawrence) Myers, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
