Mike was born on March 25, 1956, in Fort Belknap to Morris "Brickie" and JoAnn (LaValley) Brockie. The family lived in Harlem for a short time before relocating to Hays, where Mike spent the majority of his life. He learned the value of an education at a young age, graduating from the St. Paul Mission School in 1974, and worked seasonally most of his life for the BIA Forestry Department as a dispatcher. He married Fern Martin in 1979, and their union was blessed with five children. The couple later separated, but remained good friends throughout the years. Mike attended Northern Montana College, graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, with minors in Art and Special Education. He immediately put his education to work, teaching art at the Hays Lodge Pole K-12 schools. He retired from teaching after 25 years, but continued his work as a head dispatcher for the Forestry Department to keep busy. Throughout his teaching and coaching careers at Hays Lodge Pole Schools, he has truly made a difference in hundreds of his students' lives, each and every school year by giving them an ear for listening, showing them traditional artistic skills, and just acting as a great mentor for anyone who needed it. Everyone who was a student of his knew his art room was a place to relax, work on art, and just chill. He loved the HLP Thunderbird Football Team to the end. Mike was a family-oriented man, coaching football and teaching GED classes to encourage others in their pursuit of excellence. All of his children followed in his footsteps, earning higher education degrees of their own. He was a fantastic artist, both in painting and leatherwork. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, and drawing; but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Morris "Brickie" Brockie, Sr. and Joann (LaValley) Brockie; his grandchildren, Bronson James Hanley, Red Cradle Girl, Kyle Webster, Jr., and Allie Geboe-Brockie; his nephew John Edgar Brockie; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his daughters Allison Brockie of Hays, and Tiffany Brockie, Curry (Monty) Small, and Cassie (Cody) Shambo, all of Havre; his son Logan (Whitney) Brockie of Hays; his adopted sons Jared Granados of Lodge Pole, Jess Brockie of Fort Belknap, Jase "Dough" CarryWater and Dasah and Etanan HorseCapture, all of Hays; his ten grandchildren; his sister Shannon (Pierre) Hanley of Hays; his brothers, Donnie (Michelle) Brockie of Harlem, James "Jim" Brockie of Riverton, WY, and John (Janice) Brockie and Monty Brockie, all of Hays; his former wife Fern Brockie of Hays; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
