Obituary

Mavis L. Cochran, 53, passed away due to natural causes at Kalispell Regional Healthcare Hospice on Saturday, November 21, 2020.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel and private family services will be held due to the pandemic.  Social distancing and masks will be required to enter the building.  Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.  Please visit Mavis' online memorial page and leave a message of condolence for her family at www.hollandbonine.com .

Mavis was born on August 11, 1967, in Bellingham, WA, to William and Evelyn (Huntley) Cochran.  She was raised in Bellingham for the first several years, and then in 1974, the family moved back to Fort Belknap.  Mavis attended school in Harlem, but graduated from 8 th grade in Havre.  She moved to Helena for high school, where she worked part-time in a daycare.  Mavis met Mike Doney, and the couple began a relationship that lasted for many years.  Together they had five children, four of whom they raised in Hays.  Five years ago, she moved to Rocky Boy.

Mavis was a loving, intelligent woman who loved to read and write, and in recent years coloring in the coloring books for adults.  She attended the Harlem Assembly of God Church, and more recently the Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church in Rocky Boy.  She made beautiful dream catchers, and embraced her heritage, attending sweat lodges and other Native gatherings.  Her family was very dear to her, and she loved to spend time with them.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Jacob Doney; father, William Cochran; brother, Darrell Cochran; and sister Evelyn Marion.

Mavis is survived by her children, David Doney, Nathaniel Doney, and Darrell Doney, all of Hays, and Rochelle Doney of Havre; eight grandchildren; long-time friend, Mike Doney; mother, Evelyn Cochran of Fort Belknap; siblings, Vickie Cochran of Fort Belknap, Allen Cochran of Gardenia, CA, Dallas (Linda) Cochran of San José, CA, and Donald Cochran of Busby; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
