Mary L.
Engelhardt
May 29, 1952 – November 27, 2025
Mary Louise (Thill) Engelhardt, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025.
Mary was the youngest of three children born to Jim and Louise Thill on May 29, 1952, in Glasgow, Montana.
Although Mary was born in Glasgow, she moved to Havre at a young age. After graduating from Havre High School, she attended MSU–Northern before beginning her career at Mountain Bell as a telephone operator. Her dedication and strong work ethic led her to become the Chief Operator until Mountain Bell closed and relocated to Billings. She later worked for the U.S. Census for four years, followed by her role as a secretary at Lincoln-McKinley Grade School.
Mary first married Tab Angstman in 1973, a marriage that lasted a few years. On January 1, 1977, she married the love of her life, Steve Engelhardt. They remained devoted to each other until her passing.
In the mid-1990s, Mary and her husband Steve built Annie's Pet Hotel, named after their daughter, whose love for animals matched Mary's own. The pet hotel brought Mary tremendous joy and allowed her to pour her compassion into caring for animals. A few years later, Mary and Steve co-owned Saddle Butte Memorial Gardens, an animal cremation service where the family continued to provide care for beloved pets with pride, dignity, and integrity.
A true animal lover, Mary cared for many pets throughout her life horses, dogs, cats, and even a raccoon at one time. She always had one of her "babies," as she lovingly called them, by her side. She also found joy in gardening, whether she was tending vegetables, planting flowers, or nurturing new trees. Mary loved with her whole heart and treasured spending holidays and special moments surrounded by her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her big brother, "Mikey" Thill, whom she adored throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; her sons Marty (Megan), Jim (Liz), and Stevie; and her daughter, Annie O'Day Engelhardt. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Keanan (Matraca) Engelhardt, Carter James Engelhardt, Lily Engelhardt, Jayr (Megan) Caplette, Cleo and Xander, Landen Caplette, Angelina Caplette, and Kadence Marie Engelhardt. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Thill, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved deeply.
A private service will be held at a later date. In honor of Mary's memory, contributions may be made to Special Olympics an organization close to her heart and one she enjoyed supporting alongside her daughter, Annie. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
