Martin "Brian" Standing Rock, 61, passed away due to natural causes at Benefis Healthcare on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Wake services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Earl "Archie" Arkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Standing Rock Family Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Brian was born on November 24, 1963, in Havre to Martin Lewis and Cynthia (Murrie) Standing Rock. He was raised in Rocky Boy, graduating from Rocky Boy High School in 1982. Following graduation, he relocated to Fort Washakie, Wyoming, where he married Catherine Shoyo, and the couple raised their five children together. Brian worked as a chip sealer in road construction for a few years, before obtaining his training in plumbing. He worked the rest of his life as a plumber, owning his own business and also working for the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. In 2018, Brian retired to spend more time with Catherine, and she passed away in 2019. He returned home to Rocky Boy in 2024.
Brian enjoyed singing, especially to his grandchildren. He attended Pow Wows and Sundances, and horseback riding was a favorite pastime of his as well. Brian was a giving man, who loved to help others. Any outdoor activity was welcomed by him, and fish was his favorite food.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Standing Rock; son, Shawn Sun Rhodes; and parents, Martin Standing Rock and Cynthia Murrie.
Brian is survived by his children, Loryjay (Percille) Sun Rhodes, Tawnee Standing Rock, Kaycee Standing Rock, and Martina (James Tahkeal, Sr.) Standing Rock, all of Fort Washakie; 13 grandchildren, Leonardean, Tashina, Caleb, Kyle, Jessie, Victoria, Dominic, Manuel, Roselynn, Shawn, Jaxson, Robert, and James Jr.; siblings, Duane Standing Rock, Marvina Standing Rock, Chantell (Kent) Nault, and Rose Nault; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
