Mark was always into sports, riding his sister's bike without training wheels, and shooting baskets on his small hoop at the age of 3. Mark played basketball & football, but his main love was hockey. He played hockey from 7 years old to college, playing with the Bozeman Hellcats. In his freshman and sophomore years, he was the goalie on the State Champion team. Later Mark coached youth hockey teams along with his boys. He was an avid hunter, both bow and rifle. He started his construction work early working for Steve McLain, Dan Korb, J.R. Morse Construction, HRDC Weatherization, and construction companies in Bozeman and Billings. At the time of his death, Mark was working as an independent contractor laying tile for Valley Furniture. In 2009 he married Kim Berg. In 2009 Kaden arrived and in 2012 Kenton joined the family. They later divorced.
