Obituary

Marjorie M. (Keiser) Chandler, age 84, of Hays, Montana passed away at Havre Care Center in Havre, MT on March 26, 2014. Wake services will begin at the St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center at 5:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014. Funeral services will be at the St. Paul's Mission Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m., and burial will be in the St. Paul's Mission Cemetery. Margie was born on August 17, 1929, in Poplar, Montana on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, she is an enrolled member of the Assiniboine/Sioux Tribes. Margie was born to Alta Connor and William Knorr of Poplar, MT. Margie was raised by her maternal grandparents George and Sophie Connor until the age of 11 years old until her grandmother Sophie passed away. She then returned to her mother Alta and father Wilbur Keiser and her five siblings at Oswego, MT. In March of 1946, Margie was united in marriage to George J. Chandler, Sr. at the age of 16 years old. Margie and George lived in Hays until they entered the "Relocation Program" to Oakland, Calif. in 1954 where they remained until 1962. They then returned to Hays, Montana where Margie remained until her passing. Margie has worked in many interesting positions throughout her life in Oakland, Calif, Ft. Belknap Agency and Hays, MT. She was proud to be a HeadStart grandma in Hays until a few months before her passing. Mom was a staunch Hays/Lodgepole THUNDERBIRD' fan right up to the end. Margie is survived by her children Peggy "Penny" Chandler of Eaglechild, Hays, MT; Linda "Susie" Chandler of Hays, MT.; Virginia "Carol" Chandler of Ft. Belknap Agency; George J. Chandler, Jr. (Berva) of Hays, MT.; Craig L. Chandler, Sr. (Lila) of Hays, MT. Grandchildren Margie and George raised as their own Raymond L. Chandler, Jr. of Hays, MT.; Kelly Chandler of Oklahoma; George J. Chandler III (Amanda) of Hays, Montana; Charlene Kae Chandler, and her Great-Grandson Raymond L. Chandler, III that has lived with his Great-Grandma Margie until her passing. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Ina Nez Perce Chandler (Raymond) of the Ft. Belknap Agency, adopted brother Robert "Bobby" Martin, numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Also surviving are her adopted daughters, Tana Harrison Kulbeck (Tim)of Harlem, MT; Kathie Hawley of Colstrip, MT, Judith Youngdeer Nelson (John) of Oklahoma. Special friends Tootsie Hawley, Val Chopwood, Peggy M. Healy, and Elizabeth Doney. Extended families: Hawley, Zeke & Ella (Brockie) Aragon, the Gin & Florence Stiffarm girls, Dick Pohrt, Pearl and Ted Skinner of Oregon, Pearl Hopkins of the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. Margie is preceded in death by her husband George J. Chandler, Sr, son Raymond L. Chandler, Sr., grandson John D. Kindness, adopted daughter Bernadine Healy. Parents Alta and Wilber Keiser, brothers George, Raymond and Ronnie Keiser; sisters Wilma Green and Mona Damon Fitzsimmons.
