Obituary

Margaret Greene, 87, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, due to natural causes at the Care and Comfort Home in Havre, Montana. Her funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church with Father Dan Wathen officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery, followed with a reception at the St. Jude Parish Center. Margaret Greene was born February 17, 1924 in Vidora, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents, Mike and Meri (Elias) Simko, were immigrants from Slovakia, Central Europe. The Simko family moved, by wagon train, from Canada to the United States in 1925 eventually homesteading north of Havre. Margaret attended country school, St. Jude's Grade School, and graduated from Havre High School in 1943. On August 14, 1965 she married Richard Orville Greene and they spent the rest of their lives in Havre. Margaret was a sweet, kind and gentle lady who could be relied upon by all as she was the only sister that had a car and drove. She served as the focal point of their legendary Wednesday "hair day" and luncheon where portions and bills were divided with minuscule detail. Margaret's other great passion was her love of gardening and all things for holidays. Her gardens were renowned for balance of color and blooming in a sequenced manner. The center of family visits was always in the backyard during the summer months. Christmas was a special time for Margaret with more color, plants and pictures. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Richard; her parents Mike and Meri Simko; brothers George, Joey, and half-brother Mike; sisters Mary Hiebert-Neuwerth, Helen Marzolf, Elizabeth Wold, and Sophie Clark; brothers-in-law Pete Hiebert, Leonard Wold, James I. Clark; nephews Billy, Bobby and Benny Hiebert and great nephews Jimmy Clark and Dustin DeBolt. She is survived by her brother John Simko and sister-in-law Minnie Simko all of Havre and brother-in-law Norm Marzolf of Butte; nieces and nephews and their families: Jim and Betty Clark, Tim and Anna Marie Clark, Susan and Dean Lotton, Cathy and Dave Lambrecht, Betty Waid, Dick Clark, Mary Ann Grossman, George Simko, Becky DeBolt, Patty Simko and numerous great nephews and nieces. Not having children of their own, Margaret and Richard treasured time with family and friends and watching "the little ones grow up". She would be honored to have you spend a special time with your loved ones or donate to the charity of your choice.
