Luwanna M. Belgarde-Herron, Piyeso Iskwew, Thunderbird Woman, 51, passed away due to natural causes at Billings Clinic on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, and will continue until her funeral services, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Luwanna was born on May 29, 1971, in Havre to Gilbert and Darlene (Arkinson) Belgarde. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school at the Wahpeton and Chemawa Indian Boarding Schools. Luwanna received her GED, and attended Stone Child College in Rocky Boy and beauty school in Billings. She had three children and then married Jeremy Herron with whom she had four children. The couple later divorced. Luwanna worked for Chippewa Cree Tribal Natural Resources for many years, mostly as a secretary, but she also worked as a MIF firefighter and timekeeper, two positions she really enjoyed.
Luwanna had eclectic taste in music, and enjoyed drawing and doodling. She was a social butterfly, who loved to play the machines and talk with her friends. Luwanna was a kind, generous woman who was talented with hair and makeup, and she loved to have a good time and had a quick and witty sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Darlene Belgarde; children's father, Jeremy Herron; special friend, Gordon North Piegan; and siblings, Lavidia Belgarde, Jewel Arkinson-Deschamps-Gopher, and infant sister, Yvette Belgarde.
Luwanna is survived by her children, Michael (Paula Homegun) Whiteman of Great Falls, Anthony Moreni of Harlem, Carina Flores of Hardin, Jeremy (Ally Gee) Jr., Jered, Jeren, and Jacob Herron, all of Lower Brule, SD; six grandchildren; siblings, Juanita Belgarde of Great Falls, Joey Arkinson of Rocky Boy, Gilberta Belgarde of Havre, Lana (Waylon Potts) Saddler of Box Elder, Veronica Belgarde of Billings, Alex (Jayme) Belgarde of Rocky Boy, and Latrisha Arkinson-Cellis of Salt Lake City, UT; adopted sisters, Dawn Gamble and Lisa Ann Sangrey, both of Rocky Boy; uncle, Earl "Archie" Arkinson of Rocky Boy; aunts, Sylvia Russette and Wilma Morsette, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous nieces, nephew, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
Luwanna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
