Obituary

Louise Stump, 74, of Rocky Boy passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on January 23, 2017. Traditional Wake Services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church starting on Tuesday January 24,2017 and continuing until Funeral Services at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, with burial to follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Louise was born to Sam and Lucille (Little Sun) Windy Boy on January 11, 1943 in Rocky Boy, Montana. She was raised in Rocky Boy and attended Parker School. She married Robert Stump in 1959 and together they had nine children. Louise attended Northern Montana College and then went to Montana State University Bozeman to complete her Master's Degree in Education. She taught at Rocky Boy Schools. She helped create Stone Child College and operated many programs through the college. She later became a Bi-Lingual teacher at Stone Child college teaching Cree and English and wrote children's books in Cree for them to learn. Being fluent in the native Cree language allowed her the opportunity to teach and inspire others to keep the native language going for generations. Louise worked closely with the Chippewa Cree Tribal Historic Preservation Office to preserve the Cree language. She also developed the Cradle Board Teaching Project which she taught to many nationalities this took her all the way to Hawaii. Louise was a kind person rich in the traditional heritage. She always gave cultural guidance to the youth when asked and was well known throughout the Rocky Boy community for her traditional ways. She worked as the Elap Coordinator for Stone Child College and began the group Grandparents raising Grandchildren in Rocky Boy and surrounding areas.

Her hobbies included sewing, beading, BINGO, round dancing, attending POW – WOWs cultural ceremonies and feeds. She was very traditional in her heritage. She like anything with a turtle on it she made and collected many of these items.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons; Sam Windy Boy and Darin Stump. Brothers Chester and Kevin Windy Boy; Pete Stump Jr. Grandsons; Lathine Seth Windy Boy and Yancey Charette. And one Granddaughter Kristie St. Pierre.

Louise is survived by her husband Robert Stump of Rocky Boy; 7 children: Robert (Linda) Stump Jr. of Missoula; Denise (Allen Nault) Stump of Rocky Boy; Ramona (Clint Howell) Stump of Box Elder, Montana; Mamie (Ted) Montes; Shannon ( Byron) Swan; Sam (Collen) Stump and Toni (Eugene Walls Sr.) Stump all of Rocky Boy. Sisters; Wendy (Dominic) Bradley; Mary (Ken Fromboise) Windy Boy; Rachel Windy Boy; Elaine (Frederick) Coffee; Juanita (Lester) Kinsel; Darlena Stump; Edwina Stump; Geraldine Racine; Teresa Tendoy; Pearl Whitford; Cheryl Windy Boy; Lois Gopher; Sharon Cantrell; Jolene Crebs; Sandra Stump; Odessa Stump; Wilma Windy Boy. Brothers: Arthur Windy Boy Sr.; Sam Vernon Windy Boy Sr.; Jonathon Windy Boy; Alvin Windy Boy; Wesley Windy Boy; Everette Windy Boy; Donovan Stump; Gordon Stump; Ronald Stump.
