Louis "Walkee" T. Sutherland, 76, passed away due to natural causes at his home in Rocky Boy on Friday, December 14, 2018. Wake services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, all at the new Senior Center. Burial will follow in the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. Walkee was born on May 17, 1942, in Rocky Boy to Thomas and Rose (Pepion) Sutherland. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending Sangrey school. After his freshman year in high school, he obtained his GED and went to Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA, for mechanic's training. Following his return home, Walkee worked for the railroad for a number of years. He also worked as a firefighter, driving bus and janitor for Rocky Boy schools, EMT on the ambulance crew, police officer for the Tribe, propane delivery driver, and for the senior center.
In the 1960's, Walkee married Judy Meyers, and they had their daughter Michelle before divorcing. Later, he had a son Loren with Delila Walk On. In 1977, he married Rose Brown, who had a daughter Christine whom he raised, and they had three additional children, IEchia, Senica, and Louis, Jr. They, too, later divorced.
Walkee was preceded in death by his children IEchia and Louis Sutherland, Jr.; grandson Ryan Valdez; parents Tom and Rose Sutherland; brothers George "Kergel" Sutherland, Edward "Panther" Sutherland, Richard "Dickie" Sutherland, Sam "Nehewo" Descharme, and Dennis Sutherland; sisters Laura Bautista, Rosalee "Calady" Bautista, Lily Runia, Helen Molina, Delma Sutherland, and Geneva Houle.
He is survived by his children Michelle Valdez, Loren Sutherland, Christine Brown, and
Senica Sutherland; thirteen grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers Henry "PeJohn" Sutherland and Leon "Blackie" (Susan) Sutherland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
