Obituary

Lester A. Osborne, 62, passed away of cancer complications on Friday, May 20, 2016, at Benefis Medical Center in Great Falls.

Les was born on August 21, 1954, in Shelby, Montana to Alvin and Vieanna (Fredrickson) Osborne, the second of two sons. He attended Bitterroot Grade School, Shelby Junior High, and Shelby and Chester High Schools. Following his high school graduation, Les entered the US Army, and served until his honorable discharge, returning home to Montana. He married Ellen Maunder in 1978, and the couple had three children. Les worked as a law enforcement officer at the Cut Bank Police Department, Musselshell County Sheriff's Office, and the Hill County Sheriff's Office, where he also served as a deputy coroner. Following his retirement as a Hill County Deputy Sheriff, he began working for North 40 Outfitters, where he remained until his death.

Les enjoyed collecting Beatles and sports memorabilia, and watching MSU Bobcat and Minnesota Vikings football. He was a member of the American Legion, Past President and Lifetime Member of the Montana Sheriff and Peace Officers' Association, a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and Past Grand Knight for Roundup Council #2464. Les was a very quiet and reserved man until he got to know people, but he was never very chatty. He had a very dry sense of humor, and spoke sarcasm as a second language. When his grandchildren came along, Les found his other calling that of "Boppa". He loved and supported his children, and he adored his grandchildren.

Les was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Vieanna Osborne; his parents-in-law Howard and Joan Maunder; and his brother-in-law Jim Hendrick.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Ellen Osborne, of Havre; his sons, Mark Osborne of Montana, and Gary (Kristi) Osborne of Idaho; his daughter Linda Osborne of Montana; his grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, Abby, JT, and Mary; his sister Shirley Hendrick of Kalispell; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
