Leonard Jay
Whitehorse
June 19, 1966 – July 24, 2025
Leonard Jay Whitehorse, 59, passed away due to natural causes at Benefis Healthcare on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Wake services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, and will continue until his funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, all at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Kelly Eagleman officiating. Burial will follow in the New Rocky Boy Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Leonard was born on June 19, 1966, in Havre to Joesph and Janice (Calder) Whitehorse. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school there. While in high school, Leonard boxed and ran cross country, sports he truly enjoyed and at which he excelled. Following his school years, Leonard began a lifelong career in construction and also spent several seasons wildland firefighting.
Leonard lived a simple but crazy life. He was hard-working man who would fight or give someone the shirt off his back at the drop of the hat. He was gentle and caring, but also a little feisty and protective over those he cared for. Leonard enjoyed woodcutting, fishing, traveling, socializing at the casinos, and playing the machines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Janice (Caulder) Whitehorse, Sr.; grandparents, John and Julia Whitehorse and Agnes Gopher; aunt, Viola; brothers, Emil Longneck and Joseph Whitehorse, Jr.; and uncles, Melvin, Robert, and Russell Gopher.
Leonard is survived by his daughter, Jaylee Jo Whitehorse of Great Falls; son, Leonard Whitehorse, Jr. of Bozeman; brother, Donald "Ducky" Whitehorse of Havre; sisters, Tammy Williams of Whitefish, Mavis (Don) Whitford of Evergreen, Carla (Dwayne) Medicine Elk of Browning, Valerie "Buggy" Twoteeth of Helena, and Julia Whitehorse of Wyoming; one granddaughter; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
