Laurie Faye
Main
January 19, 1962 – July 16, 2022
Laurie Faye Main, Traveling Wolf, or "Beezy" as most knew her, was a member of the Aaaniii-Nin Tribe - Upper Quarter Clan. She grew up in Lodge Pole, along the Creek near the Old Lodge Pole School where almost everyone rode "horseback". Being born the 5th oldest in a family of 7 to the late Gerald & Christine Cliff Main, she was the oldest girl. Laurie attended grade school at Lodge Pole Elementary/Jr. High, but was always an outdoor person right from the start. She spent a lot of time with the neighbors up the creek, on the hill the Long Fox Family and was good friends with the late Ovilla Long Fox. Ovilla's father, the late Walter "Snorky" Long Fox, gave Laurie the name" Traveling Wolf" because she danced at powwows and was always "traveling", he said. She danced what is referred to as "Old Style Shawl, or Graceful Shawl" and won many powwows that she went to along with her brothers and sisters. Laurie attended high school at Hays/Lodge Pole High school in Hays, Montana where she met Clifford "Bushy" Cole. To this union, they had a son, Donald James "Hanny" Cole. After raising her young son, she lived in Great Falls and attended the College of Great Falls to study Dental Hygiene, but later chose to return home and pursue a career in Forestry as Camp Crew Boss. She took many, many successful Crews to different parts of the Country and always received Excellent Ratings! Later and in a tragic car accident, she lost her only teenage son, "Hanny" as everyone called him and it forever changed her. But she decided that she wanted to pursue her education and received her college degree from then Ft. Belknap College with a degree in Environmental Sciences. Most everyone who knew Beezy, knew that she was an awesome cook, bread maker and of course, loved to clean! Laurie loved family and friends more than anything and would help anyone, in any way, any time, any place! She was a hard worker with the biggest heart!
She met Donald "Curly" Cole and to this union, had 2 boys, Marvin and Cleo Cole. She purchased her own patch of land just east of Lodge Pole to where she and Curly began building a ranch where they could raise their boys who loved to rope, ride and wrangle! Laurie's boys gave her the greatest gifts of her life, her grandchildren! Marvin's son and daughters: Cash, Stetson, Paisley and Adeline Cole, along with Cleo's baby boy, Cylus....were her world! After many years, Laurie and Curly separated, but to this day, remained good friends! Through her awesome ability to cook, Beez went to work as head cook at Ft. Belknap Head Start, Three Strikes Center in Lodge Pole where she spent many years cooking for and working with our little ones!
Beezy always made friends wherever she went and through one of these friendships met her companion and shotgun rider, Louis "Chief" Messerly. Beez, Auntie Beez, Gramma Beez, Buzz, Loretta, Laurie, were some of the "handles" that family, nieces, nephews, close friends and basically everyone called her by. In growing up with a close family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, people she wasn't even related to, Laurie became the one everyone went to at some point for anything and everything she could help with, because that's just how she was. In her parents' later years, she oversaw and took care of them, until their passing. She loved to be outdoors and do outdoor work, everything from yardwork, picking trash/cans, hauling wood, and her favorite...."dumpster diving"
Before her untimely accident, Laurie was employed for the Island Mountain Development Group and was actually supposed to begin another phase of employment on Monday, July 18, 2022. However, the Creator decided he has something else in store for her and has taken her to be with her son, mother, father, and brother until the time comes for the rest of us to follow! Laurie was preceded in death by her son, Hanny, mother, Christine, brother, Wowzer, and father, Gerald. She is survived by sons, Marvin (Isabella) Cole, Cleo (Shajona) Cole; grandchildren, Cash, Stetson, Paisley, Adeline, Cylus Cole; brothers, Wesley Main of Lodge Pole, Wendell "Sack" (Cleo) Main of Heart Butte, Gerald "Shorty" (Annie) Main, and Kenny "Goofy" Wing, of Lodge Pole; sisters, Corrina "Sweety" Main of Billings, Gail "Scooty" (Webby) Main Runsabove of Lodge Pole, Jackie Wing (Delmar) of Lodge Pole; so many extended brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews too numerous to mention, but include: the families: Mains, Cliffs, Wings, Brisbos, Allens, Cuts The Ropes, to name a few!
Beez will be greatly missed to say the least by all who knew her, spent time with her, worked with her, but she will always be with us and of course....WATCHING OVER US! Journey well and embrace what you missed the most - being back with "Hanny" your Baby Son! Until we meet again.....AT-NA-HA-BAN! Love you!!!
