Obituary

Larry Joe Miley, longtime electrician on the BNSF Railroad passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, at the age of 79. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, at St. Jude Catholic Church. His burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery with a military flag presentation by the United States Air Force. Memorials in Larry's honor may be made to St. Jude Church or to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. Larry was born January 19, 1944, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and was the son of Gero and Juanita (Crider) Miley. As a youth, Larry's family lived in many different places, as his father worked for Gulf Oil. Larry attended and graduated High School from St. Johns in Mbabane, Swaziland, Africa  He went on to attend the University of Texas-Arlington, before enlisting in the United States Air Force and serving for 7 years.  He met Patricia Malsam in Havre and they were married June 12, 1971. Larry took a job as an Electrician on the Railroad in Havre and worked from 1972 – 2006.  He retired after 34 years alongside his friend, Larry Olson.

After retirement, Larry liked to be active.  He kept busy golfing and attending adult fitness classes. He enjoyed being outdoors and walking his dog, Bailey. He especially looked forward to his Friday morning coffee group.  He attended St. Jude Catholic Church.  He was most proud of his sons and his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gero and Juanita Miley and his inlaws, Tony and Lillian Malsam.

Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia "Patty" Miley. His two sons: Kevin (Tracey) Miley and Jason (Erin) Miley. Four Grandchilden: Alex, Ryan, Aiden and Kieran. Brother-in-laws: John (Mary) Malsam; Bob (Susan) Malsam; nephew Jeff (Kristi) Malsam and Connor and special cousin Phyllis Ford.
