Lavern William "Mick" Azure, 83, passed away due to natural causes in Great Falls on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Lavern's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his name to the Havre VFW Post 497.
Lavern was born June 6, 1933, in Chinook to Albert and Louise (Jeonette) Azure. He was raised in Chinook and Havre, attending school in Havre. Lavern met Patricia Houle in 1957 and were united in marriage shortly thereafter and were blessed with four beautiful children, Mona, Michelle, Brenda and Greg.
Lavern was in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, where he spent time in Korea serving 3 tours of duty during the Korean Conflict. He was honored with the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service medal and United Nations Service Medal. After being honorably discharged from the service, he moved back to Havre.
He was a highly accomplished self-taught carpenter earning the status of Master Carpenter during his lifetime of building homes and commercial buildings throughout the Western United States.
Lavern retired in 1990. He loved life and lived it to fullest right to the end, he loved to listen to country music, reading and discussing the bible, working on projects around his home, spending time with his children and grandchildren and most of all he loved running the world and solving its problems with his many good friends during their daily gathering at McDonald's.
Lavern was preceded in death by beloved wife Patricia, his parents Albert and Louise, his siblings Jerry, Ronald, Lester, Curtis, June, Delores and Georgeanna.
He is survived by his children Mona (Ricky) Sunchild of Rocky Boy, Michelle (Tony) Woods of Box Elder, Brenda Azure of Box Elder and Greg (Rachel) Azure of Helena; grandchildren Allie (Cody) Sunchild-Mattfeldt of Havre, John Sunchild of Missoula, Summer Woods of Box Elder; great-grandson Calen "The Superstar" Sunchild-Mattfeldt; brothers Alan (Kay), Lonnie (Linda-May) and sister Linda and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
