Obituary

Known by many names -"Hey You", Dad, Grandpa, brother, Coach, Ken Dawg, and friend, Kenneth F. Bigby, Sees the Eagle (Wamni Akida) left us on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, to begin his journey onto the other side. Ken was born on June 21, 1971 in Fort Belknap. He passed away peacefully, in his sleep on May 28, 2025 at the age of 53.

Growing up, Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, athletics, music, and driving his truck. After high school he married Arlene Bigby and began working as a special education paraprofessional while he finished his teaching degree. He was a classroom teacher for many years. He took a break from teaching in the public education to work at the Kicking Horse Job corp. He returned to teaching until his death. Along with teaching, Ken coached minor league baseball, wrestling at all levels, and junior high and high school football. He also followed his daughter, brothers, and grandkids all over the state watching them compete in athletic competitions. Known to anyone who heard him coach or cheer for athletes as "the voice of God" because he had such a strong, loud, clear voice.

Ken felt strongly about helping his athletes, students, and his family. He was the most loyal soul you could meet. Once you were family by blood or by choice, Ken supported and helped you anytime, anywhere. He loved to drive and explore and was able to travel across the country.

There's so much to say about Ken that we could write a book about it. When people think of Ken, they might think of sports, paintball wars at his house, pizza parties, sporting events, hunting, school events, karaoke, Bigby 3 (house band with his brothers), pool league, or long road trips among other things. He was the person you went to for advice or for a butt-chewing because you messed up. He kept a lot of people in-line and happy because he could connect with you on the deepest level.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Poncho and Mary Bigby, and his in-laws, Donald and Bobby Green.  Ken leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Arlene Bigby; daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Tony Ferlan; grandchildren, Ashley, Talon, and Pearl Ferlan; sister, Evelyn Bigby (daughter Miracle); brothers, A.J. (Marie) (son Aaron, daughter Brandi), David Bigby (sons Desmond, Isaac, Brandon, and Michael); adopted brothers, Bill Steele and Alex "Junior" Bigby; and numerous extended nieces and nephews, grandkids, aunties and uncles, students, athletes, and friends.

Ken's wake will be held beginning at 5:00 p.m. on June 1, 2025, at the Red Whip in Fort Belknap. Per Ken's request, he wants a celebration of his life during the wake. Please be ready to share stories, play music, and have a good time. He wants lots of laughter among the tears. He also made it clear kids are not to be running around unattended. The funeral will be at the Harlem High School gym at 10:00 a.m. on June 2, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please donate funds to the Harlem High School football field lights fund.

He was loved, respected, and admired in life, and will be remembered with fondness. Safe travels to your green valley in the North. Until we one-day meet again, you will be missed.
