Karma was born on March 14, 1973, in Crow Agency, Montana, to Charles Tonamah and Florine Jones. She was raised in Billings attending school there, and graduated from Billings Senior High School. She continued her education, receiving her Bachelor's degree from the University of Montana, and her Master's Degree and her PhD from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Her studies were in anthropology and archaeology. She was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as an archaeologist. She worked for several years as an archaeologist, raising her beloved daughter. Karma loved her daughter, Sarah Rose, more than anyone, and being with Sarah was the most important thing in the world to her. They loved going fishing with Jesse, Tom, Zerek, and Tobias. Sarah and Karma spent a lot of time together, reading and watching TV. Family was very important to Karma. She loved her brothers and sisters and could never refuse them anything. All she asked was to be loved in return. All her years of pursuing her education kept her away from her family, but she tried to make up for it in any way she could. Karma was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Little Gram Rose Cochran; her step-father Cecil Buck Jones; and her nephew Tyler Brockie. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Rose Cochran of Hays; her mother Florine Jones of Hays; her brothers Matt (Celina) Jones, Tom (Vicki) Jones, and Jesse (Debbie) Jones, all of Hays, and Ken Jones of Chinook; her sisters Daryl (Bob) Brockie and Zita (Brian Silva) Jones, all of Hays, Laura (Mike) Simpson and Audrey Jones, all of Billings, and Wanda (Mike Garvin) Jones of Fort Washakie, Wyoming; her godparents Bob Brockie of Hays and Margaret Doney of Fort Belknap; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved very much.
