Joyce was born August 10, 1934, to Anthony and Margaret (Thielan) Koll in Plevna, Montana, the youngest of 7 children. She attended school in Plevna and graduated from high school in Jerome, Idaho. She married Howard Hickman on December 29, 1954, in Twin Falls, ID. They started their family, and moved to Missoula, Montana, and in 1971 moved the family to Havre, Montana. She worked at Brandon's Drapery & Floor Covering starting in 1974 and worked there for 20 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a part of the Red Hat Society, "Havre Hatters Group". She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, and playing cards. She and Howard enjoyed traveling together to Glacier National Park and the Oregon Coast and taking cruises to Alaska. They spent a month down in Arizona during a few winters but felt it wasn't for them. They were members of a Hi-Line camping group and would travel to Zortman and around the state together. Joyce loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for her family and extended family. Her grandchildren were her light, and she loved to hear what they were doing in their lives and watch them grow into young adults. Her belief was that life's greatest reward was seeing her grandchildren begin their families and carry on the family legacy, providing her the ultimate joy of great-grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Margaret Koll; husband, Howard Hickman in 2019; and her 6 siblings.
Joyce is survived by her children, Kim (Valerie) Hickman, Brett (Patti) Hickman, and Tari (Edward) Hickman Renna; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way in March.
The families of Kim, Tari, and Brett would like to thank everyone for all the phone calls, texts, flowers, food and visits during Joyce's last wonderful days she spent with us.
