Johnathan Rudolph Moore, 57, of Yorktown, Virginia, formerly of Havre, Montana, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home with Carrie Linie officiating. A final farewell will follow in Highland Cemetery. Johnathan’s family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Bowlers to Veterans, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. 

Johnathan was born on June 18, 1969, in Great Falls, Montana. He attended Great Falls public schools until his family moved to Havre, where he continued on to graduate with the Havre High School Class of 1987. Even before graduation, Johnathan had already committed to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. On November 15, 1987, he boarded the bus to Butte, Montana, beginning a distinguished 30-year military career. Following recruit training in Orlando, Florida, Johnathan completed Nuclear Power Training. In 1989, he reported aboard the USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN-730) in Bremerton, Washington, serving as an Enlisted Submarine Warfare Specialist. He later served as an Electrical Maintenance Instructor at the Trident Training Facility in Bangor, Washington, before reporting aboard the USS Alabama (SSBN-731), where he advanced to Chief Petty Officer. In 2002, while aboard the USS Bremerton (SSN-698), he was selected for the prestigious Limited Duty Officer Program. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR), he concluded an honorable career marked by service, integrity, and devotion to duty.

While proud of his military accomplishments, Johnathan's greatest joy came from the people he loved. He married Lori Miller in 1988, welcoming their daughter, Ashlee. In 1995, he married Rebecca Swope, and together they built a life, welcoming their son, Mason, and daughter, Taylor.

Johnathan never met a stranger and truly enjoyed bringing people together. Whether family, friends, or neighbors, everyone was welcome around his table. He loved spending hours tending to the smoker, preparing meals that brought everyone together. Among his favorite traditions were putting on fireworks shows with his son, Mason, and spending free time bowling and sharing laughs with friends.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Philip Moore, and Dad, Joseph Amato.

Johnathan is survived by his wife, Rebecca Moore; children, Ashlee (Ron) McKenzie, Mason (Courtney, finace') Moore, and Taylor (Sam) Brady; grandchildren, Connor McKenzie and Sienna Brady; mother, Lyla Amato; siblings, Dennis (Ruth) Moore, Brenda (Paul) Dockter, Pam (Dallas) Sun Child, and Dominic (Melisa) Amato; step-siblings, Joey (Julie), Johnny (Gay), Tony, and Collette Amato; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Navy brothers and sisters, and many, many friends.
