Joanne "Jo"
Jones
June 28, 1936 – March 14, 2017
Joanne G. "Jo" Jones, 80, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Care Center on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Richards officiating. Jo's family has suggested memorial donations be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 3003 Old Post Road, Havre, MT 59501, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Jo was born on June 28, 1936, in Odin, ND, to George and Gaida (Olson) Chambers. She was raised near Minot on her grandparent's farm, and graduated from Minot High School in 1954. Jo traveled to Seattle by way of Great Falls. After time in Virginia and Turkey, she settled at the Glasgow Air Force base with her three oldest children. In 1971, they moved to Fort Peck where her 2 youngest sons were born. In 1982, Jo settled in Havre, and made a home there. She worked for Nault Plumbing until retirement. Still wanting to contribute and keep busy, she became a caregiver and very close friend to Gladys Smith until her passing in 2004.
Jo loved to travel, going on numerous road trips, sharing the beauty that Montana offers, from the plains to the mountains, with Glacier Park her favorite.
Jo was a very meticulous woman, who loved her family, and enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She loved to argue politics and religion with any and everyone, and volunteered for several years as the Immanuel Baptist Church and the Harlem Baptist Church secretary. Her favorite pastimes were painting and crafting, and she played a mean game of pinochle. Jo was known for "Mom's Tacos" and her lefse and donuts, baking the grandkids' favorite cookies, and always baking rhubarb pies.
Jo leaves behind so many dear friends and acquaintances, touching the lives of each as she journeyed through her life. She instilled a passion for life, creativity, hard work, and strong sense of independence in her family.
Jo is survived by her children, Spike and Mark (Terri) Magelssen, all of Havre, Gyann DeFoeldvar (Sharla W.) of Kent, WA, and Pete (Sarah) and Jason (Laci Keller) Christenson, all of Havre; her seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister Jean Adams of Chicago; her niece Tammie (Rob) Punnahitanond; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Gaida "Bobby" Adams.
