James Maurice
Sather
November 15, 1926 – July 7, 2024
James M. Sather, 97, passed away due to natural causes at his residence Sunday, July 7, 2024. Cremation has taken place, and at his request, only graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, with military honors. Jim's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Catholic Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
Jim was born on November 15, 1926, in Havre to Ove and Oline (Borde) Sather, the youngest of five children. He was raised in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1944. Soon after, Jim enlisted in the US Navy, and served until his honorable discharge in 1946, at which time he returned home to Havre. In 1948, he married Jacqueline White, and the couple had four children. Jackie passed away in 1977, and sometime later, Jim married Aileen (Nelson) Stevens. Jim worked various jobs until he took a position with Vita Rich Dairy, where he remained until his retirement in 1988.
From a young age, Jim loved singing. He was an avid bowler, and after retirement, he and Allie took up golfing. Jim liked playing the poker machines at the Oxford, camping, time with his family and friends, and attending his daily coffee group and Sunday breakfast group, where they solved the world's problems. He and Allie enjoyed traveling to visit his daughters and their families and on adventures with friends, but they always returned home to Havre. Jim absolutely adored Havre, and he was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He loved food, and he and Allie enjoyed their daily drive in the Bear Paws. He also had a very close relationship with his son-in-law, Mark, and his niece, Jill. One of his favorite comments was "I may not always be right, but I'm never, never wrong".
He was preceded in death by his wives, Jackie and Allie; infant sons, Bruce and Paul; parents, Ove and Oline Sather; and all of his siblings.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Kim Sather of Mountain View, Hawaii, and Barbara (Mark) Bruce of Goodyear, Arizona; three grandchildren, Kaycee Perez, Andrea (Mark) Madura, and Stone Seifried; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; his caregivers, Jill Leo and the compassionate individuals from Northern Montana Healthcare; the wonderful staff at the Oxford, whom he saw every day; and many, many friends.
