James Allen "Newt" Newbauer, 71, passed away at his home on March 8, 2026.  Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be planned for later this year.

Newt was born on October 22, 1954, in Havre to Robert and Shirley (Larsen) Newbauer.  He was raised in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1972.  Other than a short stint in California, Newt was a lifelong Havre resident.  There he worked doing some carpentry and small construction jobs.  He also worked as a cook at the Iron Horse Restaurant for a short time.

In his spare time, Newt liked working on older cars and motorcycles, with older Chevys being his favorite models.  His last build was his 1955 Chevy Bel Air.  Newt loved spending time with his niece, Christina Harrell, and his nephew, Tyler Newbauer.  He also spent a lot of time with his great-nephews, Parker, Ryker and Ronan, and enjoyed his visits with Mikell and Braydon Lamere (two more of his great-nephews).  He liked to share many stories with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley Newbauer, and maternal grandparents, George and Leona Larsen.

Newt is survived by his best friend and brother, Bob (Deb) Newbauer of Havre; sisters, Patti (Russ) Corner of Havre, and Andrea (Frank) Kruse, Lisa Burchard, and Karen Bucholz, all of Great Falls; nieces, Christina (Easton) Harrell, Amanda (Tom) Kruse, and Nichole (Beau) Durbin; nephew, Tyler (Jaymie) Newbauer; great-nephews, Ryker, Parker, and Ronan; and numerous more nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
