Jim was born on May 18, 1967. In Bellingham, WA, to Earl and Joyce M. (Altona) Huntley.  He was raised mostly in Rocky Boy, attending school there.  After his school years, he worked as a wildland firefighter for the Chippewa Cree Tribe, breaking horses, and as a carpenter and roofer in construction for many years.  In 1986, Jim obtained his GED.  He had a daughter with Debbie Roasting Stick, and also took her three sons as his own and raised them alongside his daughter.

Jim was an outgoing man who loved horses.  He adored his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, and he loved to prank them.  He was always joking around, and did his best to make everyone around him smile.  Telling tall tales was another favorite pastime, and Jim enjoyed watching his westerns.
