Jacob Deanthony
Jones Morsette
October 29, 1997 – December 8, 2025
Jacob (Jake) DeAnthony Jones-Morsette, 28, passed away on December 8, 2025. He was a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy's Reservation. Jake was born at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Washington on October 29, 1997, and spent his early years in the Pacific Northwest with his grandpa Tom Jones and Southern California before growing up in Box Elder, Montana.
As a child, Jake was full of boundless energy and loved to spend every possible moment outdoors. He adored pancakes, affectionately calling them "cake cakes" –– and played endlessly with his Hot Wheels, arranging them in creative ways. At 13, he was taken in by Willis Morsette Sr. and BilliAnne Raining Bird. Richard and Theda Morsette would later adopt him. They lived together on the reservation in a home overlooking the Bonneau Dam up on a hill.
Throughout his life, Jake had a deep love for basketball. Wearing #12 as a shooting guard, "Jonezy" or "the silent assassin" was known on the court for his skill and off the court for his loyalty to his teammates and friends. He took great pride in helping his team reach the 2014 and 2015 state championships. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 2015.
He shared a close bond with his grandmother, with whom he lived for a time, and he often checked in on his relatives. In his free time, he enjoyed playing video games and watching sports.
Throughout adulthood, Jake attended Dawson Community College with aspirations of becoming a sports physical therapist. While attending he played basketball at the school for a year. He also worked as a bartender and, during the Covid-19 pandemic, drove a truck delivering food to support his Rocky Boy community.
Jake will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness. He brought light to family gatherings and selflessly helped those around him. More than a talented athlete, he was a vibrant, joyful presence in the lives of many.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, "Papa" Tom Ronald Jones; his maternal grandmother, Wilburta Denny; his paternal grandmother Linda Luna; and his great-grandparents, Louie and Angela Denny.
He is survived by his mothers; Theda Morsette, Shalome Marie Denny, Rachel Sutherland, BilliAnne Raining Bird, Mary Ruth St. Pierre; his fathers; Rick Morsette, Lydel Meyers, Willis Morsette Sr.; siblings; Adrianna Adame, Angelica Ochoa, Lydia Dubois; Pernell, Kya, Willis Jr., Ivoree Morsette, Taylah, Tianna, Tyra, Taneal, Treyton, John Sutherland, Michaela Meyers, Patricia Blueford, and Alex DeArce; his uncle, Thomas "Bo" Jones; his aunts, Topaz Jones McCoy and "grandma" Iris Buffalo; his partner Taryn Eagleman, and numerous cousins and relatives from the Buffalo, Denny, Morsette, and St. Pierre families.
Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025 and the funeral will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Box Elder.
