Irvin L. Borst, 89, passed away due to natural causes at his residence on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., all on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Irvin's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, Bear Paw Hospice, or the charity of the donor's choice. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
Irvin was born on September 2, 1936, in Hinsdale, Montana, to James I. and Lillian C. (Kaul) Borst. He was raised in Malta until his teen years, when the family relocated to Havre. There he began working for the Great Northern Railroad as a carman, a position he held for 43 years until his retirement in 1997. In 1954, Irvin married Ruby Heimbigner in Chester, and the couple had three children whom they raised in Havre.
Irvin enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting, especially with his family. He and Ruby were members of Van Orsdel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brenda Borst; parents, James and Lillian Borst; and brothers, Richard, James, David, Robert, and Jerry Borst.
Irvin is survived by his loving wife of over 71 years, Ruby Borst of Havre; children, Lori (Brian) Lundy of Norfolk, NE, and Brett (Annette) and Blake (Stephanie) Borst, all of Havre; eight grandchildren, Nichole Borst, Crystal (Ryan Chan) Lundy, Adam (Kowen) Lundy, Tara (Chad) Zuelke, Katherine Borst, Bryce Lundy, Alicia Borst and Emily Borst; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Patty (Garry) Stansberry of Columbia Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
