Howard was born on July 10, 1930, in Westboro, MO, to Milam and Lula (Cowan) Hickman. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the Army. After he was discharged, Howard returned home to Twin Falls, ID, and on December 29, 1954, he married Joyce Koll, a marriage that lasted 65 years, with whom he had three children. Howard transferred to Havre in 1971 to manage Columbia Paint Store. He worked for several years as a self-employed carpenter, and he and Joyce remodeled and flipped several houses before flipping became popular. The last 12 working years he spent at Northern Montana College, retiring in 2005.
Howard was a truly dedicated family man with a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed collecting and hunting; but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Milam and Lula Hickman.
Howard is survived by his wife Joyce of Havre; children Kim (Valerie) Hickman of Havre, Tari (Edward) Renna of Boise, ID, and Brett (Patti) Hickman of Havre; grandchildren, Megan (Cory) Roth, Michelle (Shane) Rice, Keesha (Erich) Renna, Kelsey Renna, Michael (Mary) Hickman, Kristi Hickman, and Kody Hickman; great-grandchildren, Adeline Roth and Kennady Rice; and many beloved in-laws.
